More Than Bricks & Mortar - New Beginnings to Meet New Needs

Our new Family Center Parish Hall is much more than bricks and mortar. It is a gathering place where families, friends, and the community can meet. Indeed the word church means "assembly of believers." As such the Hall is truly an extension of our parish church. Like the church the Family Center Parish Hall will play a vital role in furthering OLV's evangelizing role in South Gloucester.

The Family Center Parish Hall will bring families and friends together to celebrate the occasions and grace that mark our life's journey with the Lord. It will be a place to celebrate friendships while hosting our many parish events including our annual suppers, auctions, bazaar and craft shows, and Knights of Columbus events, ...just to name a few! The Center will also house our new Parish Offices to better serve both our parishioners and the neighboring community.

    Family Center Parish Hall Project

The Family Center Parish Hall will consist of a single story 5,500 square foot building of conventional wood frame construction. The structure will house 2,440 square feet of hall space complete with folding partition, to facilitate simultaneous users. A commercial quality kitchen will enable us to fully accommodate a variety of functions and activities. The balance of space will serve to house both our parish office and the pastor's office, a conference room, washrooms, and storage areas. Parking facilities and utility services will also be upgraded as part of our expansion.

Two Phased Construction - An Economic Benefit

Developed in two Phases, we hope to erect the hall exterior & parking facilities Phase 2 will see the completion of the interior. As part of Phase 1, a new on-site, efficiency bungalow of aprox 1,400 square feet, which will be prefabricated by Guildcrest Homes (www.guildcrest.com) in their factory located in Morewood, ON. Its design was chosen by the Committee for its efficient and economical layout.

Phase 2 will see the interior construction of the Hall move ahead. This will include dry walling, painting, flooring and interior fit-up of foyer, halls, kitchen, offices, and washroom areas. With the success of our volunteer parishioner workforce's recent installation of hardwood flooring, entrance way and heating system in the church, we hope that the significant cost savings may be realized during Phase 2 through parishioner's volunteer help. With God's grace, and generous spirits, our community hopes to again bring another historic project to a successful and economical conclusion - securing a dynamic facility to augment our faith walk.

Meeting the Needs - Financial Planning

The total costs of our project has been valued at an estimated $1.3 million, including the construction of the parish rectory, the Family Center, and all necessary furnishings to make the hall a tasteful and desirable venue. Our Business Plan also includes the estimated cost for the)much needed replacement of our church's roof. our Business Plan which received high praise when reviewed and approved by the Archdiocese.

The comprehensive Business Plan incorporates a Marketing and Sales Plan as part of its development. Indeed, the Family Center Parish Hall will operate on a business model, albeit in deference to the needs of the Church. Our 10 year Projected Cash Flow clearly illustrates, on a conservative basis, the sustain-ability of the Family Center Parish Hall.

Both prudence and diocesan policy require any parish undertaking a major project to have 50 % of the project's estimated value "in hand" before the Archdiocese will grant a mortgage for the required balance of funds.

Since 1999, income from our traditional fund-raising events have secured the 50% goal - a phenomenal achievement!

These proven fund-raising events will continue in a timely, aggressive manner to help payoff the mortgage. Additionally, our fund-raising activities - new and old - will be directed beyond our parish community .

Together our work today will facilitate OLV's dynamic future and ministry in the South of Ottawa for decades to come.

"Let us give thanks and be glad!"
